Where it all began! Quba and Co. began with the idea of using reclaimed canvas sailcloth to make customisable and one‑off jackets, reflecting Britain's rich heritage of traditional nautical craftsmanship in a range of contemporary and unique sailcloth products. Each of our sailcloth jackets is made from a 'retired' boat sail, and is completely unique. The cloth may have salt stains, rust marks or discolouration from exposure to the elements; these features lend each jacket its own individuality and character, which will continue to develop with age and wear.
Cut carefully by hand here in Devon .The sail starts its life. With every voyage its' character unfolds. We search sail lofts around the country for old and new sails, unloved or treasured in some cases. Our sail makers then use their years of experience to cut the sail down for use, ensuring any character and history remains. Our in-house design team then decide on the best item to create from sailcloth. It is then transformed by hand into jackets, bags and other accessories. The sailcloth is given a new lease of life. Each item has a character of its' own shaped by its' own unique history.
This passion for the sea and all things nautical is evident in everything we do at Quba. At the heart of this is our sailcloth heritage. Whether Dacron, or old canvas, sailcloth is a fantastic medium to work with. It is hand-crafted, it has a history, and ultimately it creates items of beauty and individuality.
